Religious Events of the Future —
The Coming Conflict
"It is time for You, LORD, to work:
for they have made void Your law."
A possible scenario based on
And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and His disciples came to Him to show Him the buildings of the temple [their church, and their pride in it]. And Jesus said to them, "See you not all these things? Verily I say to you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down [there will be total destruction]."
And as He sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying,
"Tell us, when shall these things be?"
"What shall be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the world?"
And Jesus answered and said to them, "Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in My name, saying, 'I am Christ;' and shall deceive many."
"And you shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that you be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet."
"For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom:"
"and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places."
"All these are the beginning of sorrows."
"Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and you shall be hated of all nations for My name's sake. And then shall many [in the church] be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another."
The disciples asked two questions thinking they were both in the same time period. To save them from getting too upset by knowing all the details of the future and its length ["sufficient unto the day", Matthew 6:34], Jesus answered both questions with the one reply for He knew that the fall of Jerusalem and the destruction of the temple could also be used as a picture of the end of the world.
These great events (which all happened between 34 and 70AD and which will all be repeated in the future) will be fuelled by three things, Jesus said.
1. Many messengers pretending to be Him, or one of His prophets, will stir up the people by telling them that the end is near.
2. Then He told them and us that there would be many rumours of conflicts before there was a sudden increase in violence, and a change in the kind of wars that would be waged. In particular religious violence would be seen (ethnic cleansing), in part caused by these false prophets. But this would not be the end, and we should not be unduly troubled by this.
3. The last of the three great events, the plagues, diseases, and natural disasters, would be classed by the professed Christian leaders of the day as "punishments" from an offended God because of the tremendous genocides which would be occurring. They would make a call for "religious unity" to bring "peace and safety", and this will be responded to all over the globe. Although this will be universal and looked upon as a sure thing that the "end is near", Jesus commented sadly that even they would only be "the beginning" of sorrows.
The end result of these three experiences will be to turn many (not a few) normally kind and generous and tolerant people into bigots, betrayers, and persecutors.
Starting with the Protestant churches in the United States they will demand from their governments that religious laws be instituted against the nonconformists so that God will stop punishing them and their children.
This discrimination will spread to be worldwide and vicious as only a persecution based on religion can be. Even those who do not believe sufficiently in religion will go along with the decrees because they and their children are suffering under what they are told is the "wrath" of God.
It will eventually be decided that a show of unity in every religion must be made, and that by the laws of each government a certain day of each week be set aside for worship. Naturally, this will be Sunday for every religion in the world, as the Christian leaders of the United States will make it plain that only THAT day can appease such an angry deity. They have been trying for this for 300 years!
When the Sunday laws are passed they will come in the following order:-
Edict #1. The first decree will prohibit the population from working on Sunday and close all avenues of commercial gain, shops etc.
Edict #2. Because the people will abstain from work in obedience to it, but turn to entertainment and sports instead, it will soon be necessary to make another law which will prohibit public entertainment on that day.
Edict #3. As this will still not turn the people to religion, the church leaders will then ask for an edict compelling the inhabitants of each nation to attend a religious worship of their choice.
[For more information on this point, see this article]
These laws will not stay the plagues and calamities...
Edict #4. The religious leaders will then ask that ONLY the established church system of each nation be recognised and that every individual will have to attend at certain times.
This is the ONLY law WE have to worry about for its intent will make Sabbath observance impossible.
The question of Sunday laws we are to meet on behalf of the people of the world, and from the very first proposal of one. It is the world's right to know that religious laws are not required by God and are purely of human origin.
Edict #5. After this the little "Mordecai's" will begin to stand out and they will be proscribed by yet another law which directly prohibits Sabbath worship on pain of death.
This will take three major forms.
(a) Those who continue to worship on the seventh day in defiance of the law will be brought before courts and fined. Special "buy and sell" decrees will also be imposed on them, probably as part of a ration system on the whole population. There will be great scarcities of food and other commodities because of the breaking up of the economic system and the failure of many crops.
(b) When these monetary impositions fail to make any big difference, then the Sabbath-keepers will be imprisoned for longer and longer periods.
(c) Finally, exasperated at the continued defiance of "law and order" the Sabbath-keepers will be called "outlaws" and "traitors", and the death penalty will be brought in to deal with them. Some Sabbatarians will die for their faith and make up the list of martyrs by joining their brethren.
And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: and they cried with a loud voice, saying, "How long, O Lord, holy and true, do You not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?"
And white robes were given to every one of them [in the judgment which began in 1844]; and it was said to them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellow servants also and their brothers and sisters, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled."
[How should we resist the Sunday (not the Sabbath) laws?]
At this point only those who are fortified with the "extra oil" will be able to carry on and remain alive. Those who do not heed the correct way to resist will die.
Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened to ten virgins [bridesmaids], which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no [extra] oil with them:
but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
All the other Sabbath-keepers of the time will either die (as martyrs, or of "natural" causes),
OR they will give in and accept Sunday as their day of worship.
When every single person has made up his or her mind so definitely that they will not change from it, the "close of probation" for the world will have come.
