Some perpetual questions ....

Is there really an immortal soul?

Do you know the difference between the "love" that is of Christianity
and the "love" that is of the world?

Hello, I’m an SDA, but not a strict one, as I work on Sat’s and that does not make my faith in God any lesser.

One question has always bothered me and that is: when the Pastor is carrying out the Sat Service, is he not working on the day of rest, after all he gets paid for this job and he is well looked after the Church.   What is the difference of between a Pastor and myself working on a Saturday, since we are both working for living. (money)

How is it that pastors and others can work on Sabbath while we have to stop work?  They get paid for that day.

Hi  . . . ,

I think your query requires a serious answer, so here goes.

First of all, God works on Sabbath maintaining His creation, so working as such is not the problem.  “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, by whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory, and the express image of His person, and UPHOLDING ALL THINGS by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; being made so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they”.   Hebrews 1:1-4.  It’s the TYPE of work which needs to be looked at.

Then He works seven days a week supplying salvation for those who want it.

“He looks upon men, and if any say, ‘I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not’; He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light. Lo, all these things works God oftentimes with man, to bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living”.   Job 33:27-30.   We do not have to wait for it, for salvation and forgiveness is given the moment we ask for it.

So why should we keep the Sabbath?

The main reason He asks us to stop work on His day is as an illustration to the angels that we understand that we need to relax into Him and His power to overcome temptation.

Hebrews 3:16-19

For some, when they had heard, did provoke [rebel]: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses. But with whom was He grieved [saddened] forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness? And to whom swore He that they should not enter into His “rest” [from their own attempts at being good], but to them that believed not?

So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.

Hebrews 4:1-4

Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into His “rest”, any of you should seem to come short of it. For to us [in the New Testament] was the gospel preached, as well as to them [in the Old Testament]:

[we should note that point]

but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. For we which have believed do enter into “rest”, as He said, ‘As I have sworn in My wrath, if they shall [would only] enter into My “rest”:’ although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

For He spoke in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, “And God did rest the seventh day from all His works”.

The Son of God also asks us to observe the seventh-day Sabbath “rest” so that our relations and neighbours may see, and be persuaded to do the same.

Hebrews 4:5-11.

And [He says] in this place again, ‘If they shall [would only] enter into My “rest”.

Seeing therefore it remains that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief . . .There remains therefore a “rest” to the people of God [today]. For he [or she] that is entered into His “rest”, he [she] also has ceased from his [her] own works, as God did from His. Let us labour therefore to enter into that “rest”, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief”.

Regarding the pastor working on Sabbath, Jesus told us the answer.

***************(Begin Quote)

Matthew 12:1-8.

“At that time Jesus went on the Sabbath day through the corn; and His disciples were hungry, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat. But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to Him, ‘Behold, Your disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the Sabbath day’. But He said to them, ‘Have you not read what David did, when he was hungry, and they that were with him; how he entered into the house of God, and did eat the showbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests?

“But I say to you, That in this place is One greater than the temple. But if you had known what this means, ‘I will have mercy, and not sacrifice [rituals]’, you would not have condemned the guiltless. For the Son of man is LORD even of the Sabbath day’.”

***************(End Quote)

Why were they guiltless of in God’s sight?  Because they were doing something for somebody else, and not themselves!  “Then said Jesus to them [some Pharisees], ‘I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the Sabbath days to do good, or to do evil?  To save life, or to destroy it?’ And looking round about upon them all, He said to the man, ‘Stretch forth your hand’.  And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other”.   Luke 6:9-10

Because this is God’s will and you try to do it in His strength, then He will honour that attempt and so arrange it that you can work and have Sabbath off as well!  I don’t know how He will do that in your case but I am certain that He will.  When I first became a Sabbath-keeper I was working Friday night and all Saturday at a part-time job because we had five children to bring up.  That job gave us nearly half our wages!  But we stepped out in faith and I can honestly say that I have never been without enough money to live on at any time since.  There have been poor times but never destitute ones.

So ask God what you should do and then follow His leading in faith that He will provide for you.  That’s all He asks.

Who wants to add (or subtract!) from these thoughts? I won't argue as I have stated, but I will publish your Scriptures so that we may review all the words of God on the subject.
