Some perpetual questions ....

Is there really an immortal soul?

Do you know the difference between the "love" that is of Christianity
and the "love" that is of the world?

Here's another great site on the character of God written in a way that's very easy to understand.

In this reply the old-fashioned words of the KJV have been modernised, and in some instances, the man-made punctuation has been altered for greater understanding.  Some of the comments are adapted from books in my library.  No recognition is given because they are not intended as authorities, but are used because they express my understanding clearly.  All the ideas expressed in this article, right or wrong, are my own.

Why does the Son of God sometimes appear to remove His protection from His people?

This is how it was:

Moses asked for His presence:

 Exodus 33:

13 Now therefore, I pray You, if I have found grace in Your sight, show me now Your way, that I may know You, that I may find [more] grace in Your sight: and consider that this nation is Your people

The LORD God [the visible God] answered:

  14 And He said, My presence [the smoke and fire] shall go with [all of] you, and I will give you [Sabbath] rest.[1]

 Isaiah 63:

8 For He said, Surely they are My people, children that will not lie [will be true to Me]: so He was their Saviour. 9 In all their affliction He was afflicted, and the Angel of His presence saved them: in His love and in His pity He redeemed them; and He bare them, and carried them all the days of old. [He was there in the pillar of fire and smoke.  Exodus 13:21-22.]

 10 But they rebelled, and vexed His holy Spirit: therefore He was turned to be their enemy, and He fought against them.

 They broke the agreement:

 Deuteronomy 31:

16 And the LORD said to Moses, Behold, you shall sleep with your fathers [die and be buried]; and [the next generation of] this people will rise up, and go a whoring [that’s how He sees it] after the gods of the strangers of the land, whither they go to be among them, and will forsake Me, and break My covenant [the wedding engagement] which I have made with them.

17 Then My anger [lack of protection] shall be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide My face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall befall them; so that they will say in that day, Are not these evils come upon us, because our God is not among us?

18 And I will surely hide My face in that day for all the evils which they shall have wrought, in that they are turned to other gods. [He cannot interfere where He is not wanted.]

 This lasted, on and off, till eventually they were taken into the Babylonian exile:

 2 Kings 24:

20 For through the anger of the LORD it [various troubles] came to pass in Jerusalem and Judah, until He had cast them out from His presence, that Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.

 Thus we see that the only reason the Son of God will remove His protection from those He has died for is when we ask or demand that He do so by turning our backs on Him.  The lost have already refused to be saved and He mourns for them but accepts their choice.

 But those who have taken up His offer of rebirth exchange are different.  They have been a part of Him and so He feels a breach greater than for the others.  It is like a divorce for Him, not just an affair, but the severing of a marriage to marry another.

 It is written of the Christian life:

 Hebrews 6:

1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ [the courtship and the honeymoon period], let us go on to perfection [the daily marriage life]; not laying again [the six basic foundations of Christianity]

  the foundation of

1)      repentance from dead works,

2)      and of faith toward God,

3)      2 of the doctrine of baptisms,

4)       and of laying on of hands,

5)       and of resurrection of the dead,

6)       and of eternal judgment.   [For more see this article.]

3 And this will we do, if God permit [can lead us]

 4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, 5 and have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, 6 if they shall fall away, to renew them again to repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh [personally], and put Him to an open shame [of failure in the eyes of Satan and the universe.]

 4For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened . . . 6 if they shall fall away, to renew them again to repentance . . .”

Why?   {see note 1}

 The Godhead only has one “arrow” to Their “bow”.  One weapon, and one only to use and that is the understanding that They think enough of each one of us to allow Their dearly beloved Companion to accept the burden of sin on our individual behalf and therefore “die” to, or separate from, Them.  For the result of the salvation exchange is that the LORD God will never again have the same equal position with the Godhead as He has had since the beginning.  They who have never been separated before, took a step back from each Other in the Garden of Eden to allow us to take a step forward and come between Them.

 This step is permanent, for the LORD God now carries our burden of sin for eternity.[2]

 When we see and feel that, is when we turn to Him without reservation.

 {Desire of Ages 210.2}

The priests and rulers had set themselves up as judges to condemn Christ’s work, but He declared Himself their judge, and the judge of all the earth.  The world has been committed to Christ, and through Him has come every blessing from God to the fallen race.

He was the Redeemer before as after His incarnation.

As soon as there was sin, there was a Saviour. [See Revelation 13:8.]

He has given light and life to all, and according to the measure of light given, each is to be judged. [See note 2.]  And He who has given the light, He who has followed the soul with tenderest entreaty, seeking to win it from sin to holiness, is in one its advocate and judge. [See note 3.]

From the opening of the great controversy in heaven, Satan has maintained his cause through deception; and Christ has been working to unveil his schemes and to break his power.  It is He who has encountered the deceiver, and who through all the ages has been seeking to wrest the captives from his grasp, who will pass judgment upon every soul.  {DA 210.2}

Writing to a member of her own family, Ellen White said:

{15 Manuscript Release 97.4}

You say you have no religious inclinations.  I am not surprised at this, because it is a long time since you have taken yourself away from God and refused to be a follower of Jesus Christ, and changed leaders. [He was following mammon. Matthew 6:24.]  The god whom you have chosen as your God is not at all religiously inclined, and as long as you give yourself [as] a willing subject to the great leader of apostasy [who is behind him], you will never be religiously inclined.  {15MR 97.4} [To see the whole article click here.]

Let’s be very clear here – Leaving a “husband” does not have to destroy a marriage; having a fling on the side does not have to destroy a marriage; living with another man does not have to destroy a marriage; not even a divorce can do that.  It is only final if the woman marries another man.  (Read the story of Hosea.)

It is the same with sin and our Saviour. It is only final when the erring one deliberately joins Satan in his rebellion and “marries” him, becoming “one” with him.

We are surrounded by temptations which lead to that:

1 Corinthians 10:13

There has no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that you are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it.

We should take note of that – there is ALWAYS a way out.

The Ministry of Healing, 176 (1905)

The tempted one needs to understand the true force of the will.

This is the governing power in the nature of man — the power of decision, of choice.  Everything depends on the right action of the will.  Desires for goodness and purity are right, as far as they go; but if we stop here, they avail nothing.  Many will go down to ruin while hoping and desiring to overcome their evil propensities.  They do not yield the will to God.  They do not choose to serve Him. — The Ministry of Healing, 176 (1905).  {2MCP 685.2} [Vol 2 Mind, Character and Personality, published 1977.

That’s all we have to do.  No great works to impress Him, no promise of obedience next time, simply give up trying and give in.  Tell your Saviour that you cannot overcome it (whatever it may be). “I need You to take the desire from me.  Please do so”, and He will do that for you. But only as long you want Him to.  The temptation may return (the devil likes to repeat himself) but the response to it is gone unless you CHOOSE to indulge again.  For you have freedom of choice even when you give your will to Him. Natural body desires will NOT be removed (that’s what makes you human) but illegal desires will be controlled at your request.  (e.g. You will still get hungry but will not want that which is not good for you.)  [See note 4.]

Hebrews 13:

5 Let your conversation [conduct] be without covetousness; and be content with such things as you have: for He has said, I will never leave you, nor forsake you. 6 So that we may boldly say, The LORD is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do to me.

Testimonies for the Church 5:515 (1889)

Your will is the spring of all your actions.  This will, that forms so important a factor in the character of man, was at the Fall given into the control of Satan; [3] and he has ever since been working in man to will and to do of his own pleasure, but to the utter ruin and misery of man.  {2MCP 685.3

But the infinite [never ending] sacrifice of God in giving Jesus, His beloved Son, to become a sacrifice for sin, enables Him to say, without violating one principle of His government: “Yield yourself up to Me; give Me that will; take it from the control of Satan [in your mind], and I will take possession of it; then I can work in you to will and to do of My good pleasure.”

When He gives you the mind of Christ, your will becomes as His will,[4] and your character is transformed to be like Christ’s character . —

                   Testimonies for the Church 5:515 (1889).  {2MCP 686.1}

Our Saviour will NEVER give us up voluntarily.  We have to step over His “dead body” (spiritually speaking) to leave Him.  When He appears to depart from us it is because we want the temptation more than Him and we leave Him.  He cannot stay where He is not wanted and therefore He gives way and waits on the sideline to pick up the pieces, if we ever want Him to.  But, like Hosea He still seeks and is willing to pay the price.

Who wants to add (or subtract!) from these thoughts? I won't argue as I have stated, but I will publish your Scriptures so that we may review all the words of God on the subject.  Some of the comments on this page are adapted from books in my library. Recognition is not always given because they are not intended as authorities, but are used because they express my understanding clearly.

Next query. To be discussed from 1st April 2021

In Daniel chapter 12:2 there is a reference to a resurrection of both good and bad people; “some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt”.  Who is this about and when will it happen?

He must be the One and only One in your life.  Exodus 34:14.

Isaiah 43:

10 You are My witnesses, says the LORD, and My servant[s] whom I have chosen: that you may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He: before Me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after Me.

11 I, even I, am the LORD [Protector]; and beside Me there is no Saviour.

12 I have declared, and have saved, and I have showed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore you are My witnesses, says the LORD, that I am God.

13 Yea, before the day was I am He; and there is none that can deliver out of My hand: I will work, and who shall let [prevent] it?

He is particular and this shows in the earthly type.

Leviticus 21:

10 And he that is the high priest among his brethren, upon whose head the anointing oil was poured, and that is consecrated to put on the garments, shall not uncover his head, nor rend his clothes; 11 neither shall he go in to any dead body, nor defile himself for his father, or for his mother; [he must not publicly mourn for the dead, no matter how close they are to him.] [5]

12 Neither shall he go [spiritually] out of the sanctuary [he must stay close to God in his mind], nor profane the sanctuary of his God [or bring anything of the world into it]; for the crown of the anointing oil of his God is upon him: I am the LORD [of Life]

13 And he shall take a wife in her virginity.

14 A widow, or a divorced woman, or profane [foreigner, presumed Godless], or a harlot, these shall he not take: but he shall take a virgin of his own people to wife. 15 Neither shall he profane his seed among his people: for I the LORD do sanctify him.

One day He will get His “virgin” bride:

Revelation 14:

1 And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with Him a hundred forty-four thousand, having His Father's name [character] written in their foreheads.

2 And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps. 3 And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty-four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.

4 These are they which were not defiled with women [other church systems]; for they are virgins.[6] These are they which [only] follow the Lamb whithersoever He goes. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits to God and to the Lamb. 5 And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God.  back

Psalm 87:

6 The LORD shall count, when He writes up the people, that this man was born [here or] there [and how or when.]  Selah.     back

Revelation 2:

24 But to you I say, and to the rest in Thyatira [representing the period of Roman Catholic dominion, the lowest depth of antichrist in the history of the church], as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden. 25 But that which you have already hold fast till I come.  back

Genesis 39:

7 And it came to pass after these things, that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph [who was handsome young man in his late teens]; and she said, Lie with me. 8 But he refused, and said to his master's wife, Behold, my master wots not [does not know] what is with me in the house, and he has committed all that he has to my hand. 9 There is none greater in this house than I; neither has he kept back any thing from me but you, because you are his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?

He looked forward to a healthy relationship blessed by God, and then he met the high priest’s daughter (Genesis 41:45) and had two sons with her.

10 And it came to pass, as she [Potiphar’s wife] spoke to Joseph day by day [it was a continual temptation], that he hearkened not to her, to lie by her, or to be with her.

11 And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within. 12 And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out [under God’s direction, for that was his “way out” at that time.]  back
