Some perpetual questions ....

Is there really an immortal soul?

Do you know the difference between the "love" that is of Christianity
and the "love" that is of the world?

In the meantime, try this site.    And here's one where you can read it online.

Here's another great site on the character of God written in a way that's very easy to understand.

Some of the comments on this page are adapted from books in my library.  No recognition is given because they are not intended as authorities, but are used because they express my understanding clearly.

How does God view homosexuals today?

“If a man also lie with mankind, as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them” [what they sow, so shall they reap].  Leviticus 20:13.

“For without [outside New Jerusalem] are dogs [homosexuals], and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loves and makes a lie”.  Revelation 22:12-15.

In these verses God tells us that the act of homosexuality is a sin which will cause the eternal death of the sinner.  But it is one which is just like any other sin – one which can be forgiven and cleansed. “If we [repent and] confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness”.   1 John 1:9.

And Jesus said, “All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven to men . . .”   Matthew 12:31.

The problem, as we can see with Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 13:13), is that the participants of such a sin are not normally willing to admit that it is a sin.  They are not helped today by the many scientists and medical men who tell them that they cannot help it, it’s in their genes!  They might just as well tell a mass murderer or an adulterer that he/she can’t help it either!!

Of course, it is true that the unregenerate man or woman, one who has continually rejected God’s offer of help, can never overcome any sin in their own strength for very long – only those who have accepted Him and His power into their lives can do that.

So the first step in the remedy for homosexuality is for the afflicted one to become a true Christian, not just a professor – one who has met Jesus and allowed Him into their lives permanently.  He says, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear My voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with Me”.  Revelation 3:20.  He does this through His companion, the Holy Ghost.

When the Spirit of God takes possession of the heart, it transforms the life.  Sinful thoughts are put away, evil deeds are renounced; love, humility, and peace take the place of anger, envy, and strife.  Joy takes the place of sadness, and the countenance reflects the light of heaven.  No one sees the hand that lifts the burden, or beholds the light descend from the courts above.  The blessing comes when by faith the soul surrenders itself to God.  Then that power which no human eye can see creates a new being in the image of God.  It is impossible for finite minds to comprehend the work of redemption.  Its mystery exceeds human knowledge; yet he who passes from death to life realizes that it is a divine reality. The beginning of redemption we may know here through a personal experience.  Its results reach through the eternal ages.

Having experienced that, he or she can then come to the LORD and expect that He will honour His promise and set them free from the power of sin. That does not mean that they will be free of the temptation, but that they will ALWAYS be saved from it, IF THEY WANT TO.  “Wherefore let him that thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. There has no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that you are able; but will WITH THE TEMPTATION ALSO MAKE A WAY TO ESCAPE, that you may be able to bear it”.   1 Corinthians 10:12-13.

However, unless there is a possibility of yielding, temptation is no temptation, so temptation will not be removed.  Temptation comes and is resisted when man or woman is powerfully influenced to do a wrong action, and knowing that he or she can do it, resists by faith, with a firm hold upon divine power.

How this works is explained in another place.

“Blessed is the man that endures temptation: for when he is tried [and overcomes], he shall receive the crown of life, which the LORD has promised to them that love Him.  Let no man say when he is tempted, ‘I am tempted of God’: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempts He any man: but every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.  Then when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, brings forth death.  Do not err, my beloved brethren”.  James 1:12-16.

“For the wages [result] of sin is [eternal] death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our LORD”. Romans 6:23.

Note that it is not God who punishes, but that the sin demands its wages, or in other words, one action results in another equal and opposite action!  It is Newton’s third law of motion and applies throughout the universe.

The problem with most of us is that we want the gratification more than we want the deliverance.  That’s the fight that all Christians have to fight – ourselves!  If we desire to be set free IN GOD’S WAY, then it will happen – He has pledged His word on that, but He will not go against our choice.

Here are a few thoughts from my library regarding practising gays who profess Christianity:

“Oh, how disgusted is God with the tame, lifeless, Christless efforts made by some of those who profess to be His servants!  God's work must be carried forward strongly and upward.  This cannot be done unless the sensuality that corrupts the whole man is separated from the religious experience. This work must be done”.

“Church members need to fast and pray, striving earnestly to overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony.  Not one particle of Sodomitish impurity will escape the wrath of God at the execution of the judgment.  Those who do not repent of and forsake all uncleanness will fall with the wicked.  Those who become members of the royal family and form God's kingdom in the earth made new, will be saints, not sinners”.

In line with this, we are told;

***************(Begin quote)

“Woe to the rebellious children”, says the LORD, “that take counsel, but not of Me; and that cover with a covering, but not of My Spirit, that they may add sin [in this case, homosexuality] to sin [the basic rebellion]: that walk to go down into Egypt [a picture of the world], and have not asked at My mouth; to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to trust in the shadow of Egypt [the counsel of the world]!  Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, and the trust in the shadow of Egypt your confusion”.  Isaiah 30:1-3.

“Now go, write it before them in a table, and note it in a book, that it may be for the time to come for ever and ever: that this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the LORD: which say to the seers, ‘See not’; and to the prophets, ‘Prophesy not to us right things, speak to us smooth things, prophesy deceits: get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us’. . .

Wherefore thus says the Holy One of Israel, “Because you despise this word, and trust in oppression and perverseness, and stay [or lean] thereon: therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking comes suddenly at an instant.  And He shall break it as the breaking of the potters' vessel that is broken in pieces; He shall not spare: so that there shall not be found in the bursting of it a sherd [a small piece, big enough] to take fire from the hearth, or to take water withal out of the pit.

[A tremendous sin brings tremendous results.]

For thus says the LORD GOD, the Holy One of Israel; “In returning and rest [repentance] shall you be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and you would not.  But you said, ‘No; for we will flee upon horses’; therefore shall you flee: and, ‘We will ride upon the swift’; therefore shall they that pursue you be swift[er]’.”  Verses 8-16.

Those who have had great light and yet have disregarded it stand in a worse position than those who have not been given so many advantages.  They exalt themselves, but not the LORD.  The result on gay people will in every case be proportionate to the dishonour they have brought on God, for homosexuality is “selfish love” in that it is not shared with a differing sex as it should be.  It is the exact opposite of God’s love, for it does not require the consideration which true love manifests.

Many, by a course of self-indulgence, have put Christ to open shame.

***************(Begin quote)

Romans 1:

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men WHO HOLD THE TRUTH IN UNRIGHTEOUSNESS [i.e. His inability to protect from the consequences of choice]; 19 because that which may be known of God is manifest in [to] them; for God has showed it to them.

20 For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made [the visible creation], even His eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21 because that, when they knew God, they glorified Him not as God [with creative and redeeming power], neither were thankful [for the offer of forgiveness and cleansing]; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

22  Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things.

24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25 who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature [self] more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever.  Amen.

26 For this cause God gave them up to [their choice of] vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27 and likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet [just and fair]

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate [degenerate] mind, to do those things which are not convenient [suitable]; 29 [and they will end up] being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful.

32 Who, knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

***************(End quote)

Indulgence in unlawful things has become a mighty power to deprave mankind, to dwarf the mind and to pervert the faculties.  Just such a state of things as exists today was there before the Flood and before the destruction of Sodom.  “And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually”.  Genesis 6:5.  In that day there was only one follower of God who survived.  I wonder how many there will be in our time?

Licentiousness is on the increase in our world.  Billboards on which indecent pictures are printed are posted up along our streets to allure the eyes and deprave the morals.  Movies and TV films are riddled with them.  These presentations are of such a character as to stir up the basest passions of the human heart through corrupt imaginings.  These corrupt thoughts are often followed by defiling practices like those in which the Sodomites indulged.

But the most terrible part of the evil is that it is also practiced under the garb of sanctity, for many of the professed Christian churches have now accepted such behaviour as “normal”, even to ordaining gays as ministers and leaders in the churches.  Our youth will be defiled, their thoughts degraded, and their souls polluted unless they are barricaded with the truth.

We are not ignorant of the fact that the fall of Sodom was because of the corruption of its inhabitants, for we are told, “Behold, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.  And they were haughty, and committed abomination before Me: therefore I took them away as I saw good”. Ezekiel 16:49-50.  The prophet has here specified the particular evils which led to their dissolute morals.  We now see these very conditions existing in the world which were in Sodom and which brought upon her the wrath of God, even to her utter destruction.

Is there not enough occurring about us to show us the dangers that beset our path?  Everywhere are seen wrecks of humanity, broken-down family altars, split families.  There is a strange abandonment of principle, the standard of morality is lowered, and the earth is fast becoming a Sodom.  The Sodomitish practices (sex for selfish reasons), which caused the withdrawal of the Spirit of God from the world, and allowed it to be deluged with water, and which caused Sodom and Gomorrah to be destroyed by fire, are fast increasing.  We are nearing the end.  God has borne long with the perversity of mankind, but the result is no less certain, for as they sow, so shall they reap.

We are told, “Nevertheless the foundation of God stands sure, having this seal, ‘The LORD knows them that are His’.  And, ‘Let every one that names the name of Christ depart from iniquity’.”  2 Timothy 2:19.   Impurity is today widespread, even among the professed followers of Christ.  Passion is unrestrained; the animal propensities are gaining strength by indulgence, while the moral powers are constantly becoming weaker.

The sins that destroyed the people of the Flood and the cities of the plain exist today -- not merely in heathen lands, not only amoong popular professors of Christianity, but with some who profess to be looking for the coming of the Son of man.  If God should present these sins before us as they appear in His sight, we would be filled with shame and terror.

However, the words spoken to good king Josiah when he reached his teens, may apply to us also.  “Because your heart was tender, and you did humble yourself before God, when you heard His words against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, and humbled yourself before Me, and did rend your clothes, and weep before Me; I have even heard you also, says the LORD.  Behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace, neither shall your eyes see all the evil that I will bring upon this place, and upon the inhabitants of the same”.  2 Chronicles 34:27-28.

Regardless of what some well-meaning men and women of today say, homosexuality is NOT acceptable to God because it is the result of an altered gene, or some other plausible reason.  It is a sin like so many other manifestations of selfishness mentioned in the Bible.  The good news is that because it is a sin, it can be forgiven and cleansed by the power of God.

Who wants to add (or subtract!) from these thoughts? I won't argue as I have stated, but I will publish your Scriptures so that we may review all the words of God on the subject.

Next query. To be discussed from May 1st 2010,

Daniel 2:

41 And whereas you saw the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as you saw the iron mixed with miry clay. 42 And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.

43 And whereas you saw iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.

44  And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever”.

What do the feet and toes of the statue represent?
