Some perpetual questions ....

Is there really an immortal soul?

Do you know the difference between the "love" that is of Christianity
and the "love" that is of the world?

Click on the link for a good book on the character of our God which you can download for free and share amongst your friends.   It's called "Light through Darkness" and is one of the best books on this subject that I have ever read!

(when you get to the site just click "cancel" and it will let you in.  Then click "order" to obtain a copy. )

In the meantime, try this site.    And here's one where you can read it online.

Here's another great site on the character of God written in a way that's very easy to understand.

Some of the comments on this page are adapted from books in my library.  No recognition is given because they are not intended as authorities, but are used because they express my understanding clearly.

Daniel 2:

41 And whereas you saw the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as you saw the iron mixed with miry clay. 42 And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.

43 And whereas you saw iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.

44  And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever”.

What do the feet and toes of the statue represent?

The vision of the fighting man was given to illustrate how Satan’s kingdom would progress from Daniel’s time onwards, and how it would come to its finish.  Daniel told the king that the primary purpose of the dream was to make its end plain when he said,  “But there is a God in heaven that reveals secrets, and makes known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be IN THE LATTER [last] DAYS”.  Daniel 2:28.

Then he said, “And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom [there’s really only one, Satan’s] shall be partly strong, and partly broken [in the last days].  And whereas you saw iron mixed with miry [dirty wet] clay, they shall mingle themselves [unite] with the seed of men [in the last days]: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not [normally] mixed with clay.  And in the days of these [ten] kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom [on earth], which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever”.  Daniel 2:42-44.

The “iron” is one of the metals which describe Satan’s political world conquerors.

Babylon (the golden head), Medo-Persia (the silver arms), Greece (the brass belly and thighs), Pagan Rome (the first iron leg) and Papal Rome (the second iron leg), were the “seed of men” in the past.  So in the feet we see a continuation of this theme.  But right at the end of time those “states” (pictured as ten of them worldwide, for there are ten “toes” on the feet), have the “clay” added to them.  And not just any clay, but “potter’s clay” which, in this case, is both wet and dirty (miry)!

One day God spoke to Jeremiah and said, “Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause you to hear [and see] My words.  Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.  And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.  Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying, “O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? says the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel”.  Jeremiah 18:2-6.

Here we have the word of Inspiration telling us that clay can represent a church – in Jeremiah’s case, God’s church – but in the statue it must be Satan’s religions, for while God has only one, Satan has many – “gods many, and lords many”, which are represented as “ten”.  1 Corinthians 8:5.

The iron and clay toes represent a combination of states and religions in the last days.

Wet clay and iron can stick together while there is moisture between them, but as soon as it dries out, they must separate.  Water is often used in the Bible as a symbol of the Holy Spirit (e.g. Isaiah 44:3), but in this vision, it represents the spirit of Satan, which is a very selfish and domineering spirit.  While the two entities, state governments and state religions, can join together when a third party is involved, as soon as that is removed their unity crumbles, for they both want the same thing, which is control of the masses, and they will fight for that.

What we should see in the vision of the feet and toes is that in the very end of the last days there will be a temporary union between the governments of ALL the nations and ALL the religions of the nations as they endeavour to exterminate the people of God.  Once this no longer possible, they will separate, and in the nature of men, commence to fight against each other!

In another prophecy of the same events, God tells us through an angel;

Revelation 17:

12 And the ten horns [which are smaller powers than nations] which you saw are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour [a short time] with the beast [in the last days].

13 These have one mind [one desire], and shall give their power and strength to the beast [Satan and all his followers].

14 These shall make war with the Lamb [and His people], and the Lamb shall overcome them: for He is LORD of lords, and KING of kings: and they that are with Him are called, and chosen, and faithful [to His way of non-violence]    . . .

16 And the ten [crowned] horns which you saw upon the [head of the] beast, these shall [eventually] hate the whore [Satan’s primary church which is on the back of the beast], and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.

For God has put in their hearts to fulfil His will, and to agree, and give [the power of] their kingdom[s] to the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.

In a description of the last days, Jesus told us,

***************(Begin Quote)

“And you shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that you be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.  For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers [different] places.

“All these are the beginning of sorrows.

“Then shall they [the religious ones] deliver you up [to the political ones] to be afflicted, and [the political ones] shall kill you: and you shall be hated of ALL nations for My name's sake.  And then shall many be offended [in the church of God], and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.  And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

“And because iniquity [in the church] shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.  But he [or she] that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

“And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness to ALL nations; and then shall the end come”.   Matthew 24:6-14.

In the early part of the vision there is mention of a “stone” (verse 34) which hits the statue on the feet and completely wrecks it.  This is a picture of the Lamb’s righteousness dealing with the sinful actions of the rejecters of God’s way.  How does He do it?  Through His church.

“And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with Him a hundred forty-four thousand, having His Father's name written in their foreheads [in their minds].

"And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps: and they sung as it were a new song [of their experiences] before the throne, and before the four beasts [which are symbols of the redeemed, Revelation 5:8-9], and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty-four thousand, which were redeemed from [while still living on] the earth. [No one had ever had such an experience.]

“These are they which were not defiled with women [any religious organisations]; for they are virgins [they have a pure faith].  These are they which [only] follow the Lamb whithersoever He goes.  These were redeemed from among men [not the grave], being the firstfruits to God and to the Lamb”.  Revelation 14:1-4.

At that time the fighting spirit of Satan’s kingdom will self-destruct as his followers destroy each other, and the spirit of love will take over and grow into a great mountain through the resurrection of the righteous.

It, of course, can stand forever.

“Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshing floors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth”.  Daniel 2:35.

Thus we have the certainty that God will win in the end.

In the last days, combinations of states and religions all over the world will unite temporarily in order to hunt out and eliminate the people of God.  There will be no exceptions.  But, at that time, the Son of God will have a people who will stay with Him doing only His will and therefore not dying, and that demonstration will completely demolish Satan’s system in the only way God can – by a true witness of non-violence and endurance under persecution.

Who wants to add (or subtract!) from these thoughts? I won't argue as I have stated, but I will publish your Scriptures so that we may review all the words of God on the subject.

Next query:

It is written;

Isaiah 53:3-4

He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from Him; He was despised, and we esteemed Him not.  Surely He has borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

Matthew 24:30-31

And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.  And He shall send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

Matthew 25:31-33

When the Son of man shall come in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then shall He sit upon the throne of His glory: and before Him shall be gathered ALL NATIONS: and He shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats: and He shall set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left.

In the Bible I read about the “coming” of Christ, but some verses refer to Him as “the sacrificed” or “rejected” One, while others speak of His “glorious advent” and resurrecting only His redeemed.  Then another one speaks of His arrival and raising both good and bad from ALL nations!  How can I reconcile these three descriptions?
