Query:

John was wondering, How could this be? How can this system overcome God's system for so long?

Response:

The question is NOT "How can sin overcome God?" for that can never happen. It is, "How can the evil system overcome the good one for so long and so devastatingly?"

The answer is reasonably short. If God cannot be overcome, then it is the people who are in His system who are!

Unless the King uses His super powers then He must wait until His people use the weapons He supplies for their conflict and become successful. And if they consistently use the wrong ones, ones of their own making, then He must wait longer.

So why doesn't God use force and destroy Satan and all his kingdom of Babylon? Because it won't work in the long run. Sure, the use of superior strength settles the issue for the moment, but the cause of the problem doesn't go away. We know this from our own experiences on earth. The long-term situation can only be settled by all agreeing to harmonise in the problem.

Sin, and the rebellious party, arose in heaven with Lucifer. He decided to do his own thing and couldn't see why God opposed the idea. It is written of him:

Isaiah 14:12-14

How are you fallen from heaven, 0 Lucifer, son of the morning! How are you cut down to the ground, which did weaken the nations! For you have said in your heart, "I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High."

But those who use righteousness (right methods) harmonise with God's ways and don't want their own way. So Satan had to use other methods.

Naturally, they had to be the opposite of those already in existence for there is only one good way. John 14:6. So, love became hatred, care became indifference, truth became lies, peace became war, defence became accusation, etc. The use of these principles separated him from God's kingdom and so two groups came into existence in God's family. But this was not evident to the loyal angels immediately, because of Satan's deceptive tactics. God had to let it come to a head and so the controversy began.

John 8:38-45

[Jesus said] "I speak that which I have seen with My Father: and you do that which you have seen with your father."

They answered and said to Him, "Abraham is our father." Jesus says to them, "If you were Abraham's children, you would do the works of Abraham. But now you seek to kill Me, a man that has told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham. You do the deeds of your father."

Then said they to Him, "We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God."

Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love Me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of Myself, but He sent Me. Why do you not understand My speech? Even because you cannot hear My word. You are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it."

"And because I tell you the truth, you believe me not."

God, because He is God (a loving and good Father as described by the Ten Commandments) could not use any of those new principles. Lucifer didn't create them, he merely twisted what was already there (we call it mutation), but they were new in the universe and no one (except God) knew where they would lead. So He had to let Lucifer and his followers use them to their ultimate end, which was when EVERYONE would be able to see it and agree that He was right in His opposition. Then, and not till then, could He even ALLOW Lucifer to die as the "wages" of his actions.

So our Father was between a rock and a hard place. He must keep Lucifer and his followers alive while they did all the bad things! Including setting up the false church "Babylon" here on earth. So when Jesus volunteered to take over and sort the mess out, the Father gave all things into His hand, all the while knowing that it would lead to the "death" of His Son.

In the meantime, Jesus worked on by protecting His own as much as they would let Him. Not one Christian has had to suffer any more than he or she really wanted to!! (This fact may not be evident to you right now, but it will be so at a later date.) The Son of God is not only righteous towards His opponents, but also to His own followers. He has no favourites at all and justice is exact. Some have seen this and said:-

Psalm 19:9

The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.

Revelation 16:7

And I heard another out of the altar say, "Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are Your judgments."

After about 1600 years from the creation the results of Satan's works were very evident in the world, and then the Flood destroyed it. Jesus did not cause the Flood (He warned about its coming through Noah for 120 years in an effort to save the people) but He could not stop it without the use of force. He did delay it for quite a while though. Very few listened, however, and in a smart move afterwards, Satan claimed that it was God's fault! That He had punished them for their independence. He's good at twisting the truth. And no one in the universe was sure whether this was true or not!

So Jesus had to carry on for another 2400 years, but this time when He died on the cross in a human body, the people of heaven and the universe saw Satan personally in action and this removed the scales from off their eyes. At last they agreed wholeheartedly with God. Sin was evil, and so were the sinners who would die as a result of their use of sin.

Revelation 12:10-13

And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, "Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ: for the accuser of our brothers and sisters is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives to the death."

"Therefore rejoice, you heavens, and you that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! For the devil is come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has but a short time."

And when the dragon saw that he was cast to the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.

That settled the problem with the inhabitants of the universe, but the majority of the men and women of this earth still did not see it that way. Because sin is so natural to (and so loved by) us, humanity refused to see the obvious, and so we have the problem of the last 2000 years. The false churches are so near (and yet so far from) the right way, and teach doctrines which are so near (and yet so far from) the truth, that most of the people of the world love them. They can FEEL religious and yet still DO sinful things. They can have the best of both worlds, so they think.

But our Saviour warns that this will not last. Even though the system seems to be endless while we as individuals come and go, it also will come to an end as the Spirit explains in Revelation 17. Then we must all face the music for what we have done.

Romans 8: 13

For if you live after the flesh, you shall die [the second death]: but if you through the Spirit do mortify [put to death now] the deeds of the body, you shall live.

In the meantime, that which allows Satan's system to prosper is the fact that there is not enough truth in the Christians. They know enough, but do not use enough! When righteousness becomes the basic way of life in enough people (and it doesn't have to be a lot), the reaction will be that the sinners will become even more sinful. This will cause a chain reaction which will, in turn, cause enough religious persecution to enable all who want to, to SEE what is happening and choose either God's way or Satan's, forever. (This will also destroy the earth again for sin is the destroyer of all it touches.)

Jesus lasted about three months after His baptism before the leaders of His church wanted to kill Him! After that He only came back to Jerusalem occasionally so that He could continue the three and a half years till His public exhibition at Calvary. (They didn't kill Him there, He laid down His life for us. John 10:18.)

Jesus has promised that in the future a line will be drawn regarding the validity of the Ten Commandments, and ALL will decide one way or the other. There will be none to sit on the fence. Until that time, Babylon will prosper and those who are like John will wonder "with great wonder".

Why hasn't it happened already?

Maybe this Scripture will help us understand this?

Hebrews 10:11-14

And every priest [on earth] stands daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: but this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; from henceforth [that time on] expecting [waiting] till His enemies be made His footstool. For by one offering He has perfected for ever them that are sanctified [and now it's up to them to train and become the "fit" man of Leviticus 16.]

Conclusion:

While Christians go about doing their own thing, they are more on Satan's side than God's and the success of Babylon is assured for it thrives where loyalties are mixed. When we learn to use God's weapons in God's way then the truth will win out and the end will come. In the meantime, Jesus is "expecting", or waiting, for us to make up our minds so strongly that we will never be moved from that decision again. Hebrews 10:9-14.

So it's up to you and me.

Who wants to add (or subtract!) from these thoughts? I won't argue as I have stated, but I will publish your Scriptures so that we may review all the words of God on the subject.
