Some extra notes regarding

The Sealing

of God's people

The fourth commandment seal

Exodus 20:8-11

Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shall you labour, and do all your work: but the seventh day [Saturday] is the Sabbath of the LORD your God: in it you shall not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger that is within your gates: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it.

The fourth commandment alone of all the ten contains the seal of the great Lawgiver, the Creator of the heavens and the earth. This commandment alone identifies the Law-giver as the Creator. Those who obey this commandment take upon themselves His name, and all the blessings it involves are theirs.

Genesis 2:2-3 There is a blessing in this day

And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had made; and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it He had rested from all His work which God created and made.

Numbers 6:22-27

The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, Speak to Aaron and to his sons, saying, On this wise you shall bless the children of Israel saying to them,

The Lord bless you, and keep you: The Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you: The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.

And they shall put My Name upon the children of Israel; And I will bless them.

The separation seal

Isaiah 8:11-20

The Lord spoke thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying, Say you not, A confederacy, to all them to whom this people shall say, A confederacy; neither fear you their fear, nor be afraid. Sanctify the Lord of hosts Himself; and let Him be your fear, and let Him be your dread. . . .

Bind up the testimony, seal the law among My disciples. . . .

To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

The sign, or seal, of God is revealed in the observance of the seventh-day Sabbath, the Lord's memorial of creation. This separates His people from those who profess to follow Him but are really doing their own thing. The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

Exodus 31:12-13

Speak you also to the children of Israel, saying, Verily My Sabbaths you shall keep: for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations; that you may know that I am the Lord that does sanctify you.

Here the Sabbath is clearly designated as a sign between God and His people.

The mark of the beast is the opposite of this -- it is the observance of the first day of the week. This mark distinguishes those who acknowledge the supremacy of the papal authority from those who acknowledge the authority of God.

A continual sealing

Hebrews 3:13-15

But exhort one another daily, while it is called Today; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast to the end; while it is said, To day if you will hear His voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.

It is possible to be a partial, formal believer, and yet be found wanting and lose eternal life. It is possible to practise some of the Bible injunctions and be regarded as a Christian, and yet perish because you lack qualifications essential to Christian character. If you neglect or treat with indifference the warnings that God has given, if you cherish or excuse sin, you are sealing your soul's destiny. You will be weighed in the balance and found wanting. Grace, peace, and pardon will be forever withdrawn; Jesus will have passed by, never again to come within reach of your prayers and entreaties. While mercy lingers, while the Saviour is making intercession, let us make thorough work for eternity.

The sowing and reaping seal

Job 4:7-8

Remember, I pray you, who ever perished, being innocent? Or where were the righteous cut off? Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.

Unbelief in regard to God and dishonesty in dealing with God, lead to dishonesty in dealing with men. Separation from God means the corruption of morals while fear and love of God produce faithfulness and integrity. Thus it is that each one of us is sealing his destiny. That which we sow, we shall reap. This is our sowing time, and as beings accountable to God, we should take heed as to the kind of seed we are sowing. Let us bear in mind that the reaping time will surely come.

World problems without the seal

Revelation 7:2-3

And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea, Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.

Our own course of action will determine whether we shall receive the seal of the living God or be cut down by the destroying weapons. Already a few drops of Satanic showers are falling upon the earth because of God's lack of protection in some areas; but when the seven last plagues shall be poured out without mixture (this means with no protection at all) into the cup of His indignation, then it will be forever too late to repent and find shelter anywhere. No atoning blood will then wash away the stains of sin.

The counsel of the True Witness

Revelation 3:18

I counsel you to buy of Me gold tried in the fire [a working faith], that you may be rich; and white raiment, that you may be clothed [the righteousness of Jesus], and that the shame of your nakedness do not appear [do not be defenceless]; and anoint your eyes with eyesalve [use the guidance of the Spirit], that you may see.

Not one of us will ever receive the seal of God while our characters have one spot or stain upon them. It is left with us to remedy the defects in our characters, to cleanse the soul temple of every defilement. Then the latter rain will fall upon us as the early rain fell upon the disciples on the Day of Pentecost.

We are too easily satisfied with our attainments. We feel rich and increased with goods and know not that we are wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked. Now is the time to heed the admonition of the True Witness:

We have a work to do

Mark 16:15-16

And He said to them, Go you into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believes and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believes not shall be damned.

What are you doing, reader, in the great work of preparation? Those who are uniting with the world are receiving the worldly mold and preparing for the mark of the beast. Those who are distrustful of self, who are humbling themselves before God and purifying their souls by obeying the truth are receiving the heavenly mould and preparing for the seal of God in their foreheads. When the decree goes forth and the stamp is impressed, their characters will remain pure and spotless for eternity.

Now is the time to prepare. The seal of God will never be placed upon the forehead of an impure man or woman. It will never be placed upon the forehead of the ambitious, world-loving man or woman. It will never be placed upon the forehead of men or women of false tongues or deceitful hearts. All who receive the seal must be without spot before God -- candidates for heaven. Go forward, brothers and sisters in Christ. I can only write briefly upon these points at this time, merely calling your attention to the necessity of preparation. Search the Scriptures for yourselves, that you may understand the fearful solemnity of the present hour.
